1. Rates Are IBJA Indicative Reference Rates - Not Retail Prices
All gold rates published on GoldPrice India are IBJA indicative reference rates and/or mathematical purity ratios derived from them (22K = 916/999 x 24K, 18K = 750/999 x 24K). They represent the wholesale bullion benchmark and are not live executable quotes, showroom counter prices or offers to buy or sell any instrument.
Every retail showroom, jeweller or bullion dealer in every Indian city applies its own making charges (which vary by design and area), 3% GST on metal + making charges, stone value on studded items and - during peak festivals - a seasonal premium. Always compare at least two or three local jewellers and always ask for a fully itemised GST invoice that lists metal weight, purity, making charges, stone cost and GST on separate lines.
2. No Financial, Legal or Tax Advice
Nothing on GoldPrice India constitutes financial advice, investment advice, trading advice, legal advice or tax advice. Gold is a volatile asset; past trends do not predict future returns. Before making any buying, selling or investment decision involving gold - including coins, bars, jewellery, ETFs, Sovereign Gold Bonds, MCX futures or derivatives - please consult a SEBI-registered investment advisor, a chartered accountant and / or a qualified lawyer as appropriate.
GoldPrice India does not hold an ARN, RIA or stock-broker license and does not make any recommendation to buy, sell or hold any asset.
3. Accuracy, Timeliness and Data Sources
- Rates are primarily sourced from IBJA (India Bullion and Jewellers Association) twice-daily indicative spot fixing, plus MCX intraday movement context and standard purity math.
- We refresh our pages as often as technically practical but do not guarantee a specific refresh cadence or that a given number on the page is the exact most-recent IBJA print.
- Occasional IBJA delays, MCX trading halts, API outages or manual data-entry errors can create transient discrepancies. We correct any reported error as quickly as possible but accept no liability for decisions taken on the basis of a stale or incorrect number.
- City-specific retail differences (Chandni Chowk vs. Bandra, Bowbazar vs. Gariahat, etc.) are qualitative guidance only; we do not quote an actual local retail rate for any specific shop, chain or showroom.
4. GST, Import Duty, Customs & Making Charges
The GST rate on gold jewellery is currently 3% across India. Import landing duty on gold bars and dore is governed by the Union Budget and can change mid-year through notifications. Import-duty and cess percentages cited in our city guides represent the rates prevailing at the time of writing and are for general context only; they are not a substitute for the current official CBIC tariff notification.
Making charges vary enormously by design (machine-made vs. handmade), showroom and city. Never rely on a single "all-in per-gram" price without first seeing the itemised GST invoice.
5. Hallmarking, HUID & Jewellery Purchase
For gold jewellery and artefacts, we strongly recommend checking the BIS hallmarking marks before paying: the BIS logo, the purity or fineness mark (such as 22K916 for 22-carat jewellery or 18K750 for 18-carat jewellery) and the six-digit alphanumeric HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification), which consumers can verify through the "Verify HUID" feature in the BIS Care App. Gold bullion and coins are covered under a separate BIS refinery/mint certification framework; consumers should check the applicable BIS marking and buy from reputable sources.
We do not warrant, endorse or guarantee any specific jeweller, brand, showroom, assay centre or product mentioned on this site. Any list of "where to buy" is purely informational and non-exhaustive.
