Gold rate today in India: 6 October IBJA benchmark rates

The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) published fresh AM and PM benchmark rates on 6 October 2026. The PM rate for 999 gold was ₹148,473 per 10 grams, while 916 gold was ₹136,001 per 10 grams and 750 gold was ₹111,355 per 10 grams. IBJA states that its published benchmark rates are without 3% GST and making charges.

For a one-gram reference, dividing the official 10-gram figures by ten gives ₹14,847.30 for 999, ₹13,600.10 for 916 and ₹11,135.50 for 750. These are derived metal-reference values, not final jewellery invoices.

Purity / fineness6 Oct AM6 Oct PMAM to PM move
24K / 999₹147,278 / 10g₹148,473 / 10g+₹1,195
22K / 916₹134,907 / 10g₹136,001 / 10g+₹1,094
18K / 750₹110,459 / 10g₹111,355 / 10g+₹896

The PM benchmark therefore rose by roughly 0.81% from the morning level across the three fineness categories.

The 6 October PM rate also finished above 5 October

Compared with the previous published PM benchmark on 5 October, the 6 October PM rate was higher by ₹275 per 10g for 999 gold, ₹252 for 916 and ₹206 for 750. That is roughly 0.19% in each category.

The two comparisons describe different things. AM-to-PM captures the larger move within 6 October, while PM-to-previous-PM shows that the official benchmark also ended modestly above the prior day's PM reference.

International gold rose as the dollar and Treasury yields eased

Reuters reported on 6 October that spot gold rose about 0.7% to $4,168.33 per ounce as U.S. Treasury yields retreated and the dollar weakened from recent highs. Lower yields can reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding gold, while a softer dollar can make dollar-priced bullion less expensive for buyers using other currencies.

That international move is useful context, but it should not be treated as a one-to-one formula for Indian gold. Domestic rates also reflect the USD/INR exchange rate, local timing and Indian market conditions.

The rupee remained an important part of the India price story

Reuters reported that the Indian rupee closed at ₹96.42 per U.S. dollar on 6 October, about 0.1% weaker on the day, as equity outflows and expectations around the Reserve Bank of India policy decision kept the currency under pressure.

When the rupee weakens, more rupees are needed to buy the same dollar-priced amount of gold, all else equal. This can support Indian gold prices even when the international move is smaller. Currency is only one driver, however, so shoppers should compare prices using the same date, time, purity and unit.

24K, 22K and 18K must be compared on the correct purity basis

For this article, 999 is used as the high-purity 24K reference, 916 corresponds to 22K jewellery fineness and 750 corresponds to 18K. BIS explains that Indian hallmarked gold jewellery uses caratage and fineness markings such as 22K916 and 18K750.

A 22K jewellery quote should therefore be compared with a 916 reference, not directly with a 999 bullion figure. Matching purity first avoids overstating the metal value before retail charges are considered.

The IBJA rate is not the final jewellery bill

IBJA's benchmark is a metal-rate reference. A finished jewellery invoice can also include making or design charges, stone or non-gold value and tax. CBIC's jewellery-sector FAQ states that GST is payable at 3% of the total transaction value of jewellery, whether making charges are shown separately or not.

That is why two jewellers can display similar gold rates but still produce different final totals. Compare the complete payable amount, not only the rate board.

Buyer checklist for 6 October quotes

  1. Confirm whether the quote is for 999, 916 or 750 fineness.
  2. Match every quote to the same date, time and unit.
  3. Ask for the net gold weight if stones or non-gold parts are present.
  4. Ask whether making charges are fixed, percentage-based or charged per gram.
  5. Verify the BIS hallmark and six-digit alphanumeric HUID where applicable.
  6. Confirm the GST calculation on the final invoice.
  7. Compare the shop quote with the closest available IBJA benchmark timestamp.
