Latest available IBJA reference

For 19 September 2026, the latest available India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) indicative retail selling rates on its public page are the 18 September 2026 PM reference: 24K / Fine Gold (999) at ₹15,373 per gram, 22K at ₹15,004 per gram and 18K at ₹12,452 per gram. IBJA states that these indicative retail rates are per gram and are shown without 3% GST and making charges. Because 19 September is a Saturday, shoppers should treat the latest published IBJA figure as a reference point and check the update time on the live price cards before comparing a jeweller's quote.

These figures are not a guaranteed shop price. A jewellery invoice can differ because making charges, wastage, stones, retailer margins and other product-specific costs may be added. A useful comparison starts with the same purity, the same weight and the same time reference.

What 24K, 22K and 18K mean

24K is the closest of these three categories to pure gold and is commonly used as a reference for bullion. 22K gold is widely used for jewellery in India and is associated with 916 fineness. 18K gold contains a lower proportion of gold and is often used where a harder alloy is useful for design or stone settings. When comparing two offers, make sure both are for the same purity. A cheaper 18K quote should not be compared directly with a 22K quote as if the metal content were identical.

For a quick metal-value estimate, multiply the per-gram reference by the weight. At the latest IBJA 22K retail reference above, 10 grams corresponds to ₹150,040 before GST, making charges and other billable items. The same method works for 1 gram, 8 grams or a custom weight. The calculator on this site is designed for this reference calculation and is not a buying or selling quote.

GST and making charges

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) states in its jewellery sector FAQ that GST is payable at 3% of the total transaction value of jewellery, whether the making charge is shown separately or not. This is important when checking a bill: the final amount is not simply the gold weight multiplied by the reference rate.

A transparent comparison should separate at least four items: the metal value, the making charge, any stone or non-gold value, and tax. Two jewellers can start with a similar headline gold rate and still produce very different final invoices because their making-charge structure is different.

Hallmark and HUID checks

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) explains that a modern gold jewellery hallmark includes the BIS mark, the purity in carat and fineness, and a six-digit alphanumeric HUID. BIS also provides a Verify HUID feature in the BIS Care app. Before paying a premium for jewellery, it is sensible to verify that the purity mark on the item matches the purity used in the invoice and in the rate you are comparing.

For example, a 22K item should be evaluated against a 22K / 916 reference, not a 24K reference. If stones are present, ask whether the displayed weight is gross weight or net gold weight because the difference can materially change the metal-value calculation.

A simple buyer checklist

  1. Check the date and update time of the reference rate.
  2. Compare the same purity and the same unit, preferably price per gram.
  3. Ask for the net gold weight if the item includes stones or non-gold components.
  4. Ask how making charges are calculated — fixed amount, percentage or per-gram charge.
  5. Confirm the tax basis on the final invoice.
  6. Check the BIS hallmark and HUID on hallmarked jewellery.
  7. Compare the complete payable amount, not only the headline gold rate.

FAQ

Does this 19 September article use a new 19 September IBJA rate?

Is 22K gold the same purity category as 916 gold?
